Used Car Finance customers are continually told that it is important to check their potential purchase before handing over the cash - and a new article has advised on how best to do this.

According to Auto Express, technical advisor at the RAC John Gregory believes that there are eight essential things to look out for, starting with simple checks such as documentation and tyres.

He states that checking the used car's bodywork may also seem simple but suggests that it can be easy to "miss crucial problems" and that one technique is to "look along the car rather than directly at it - because that will help you pick up dents and imperfections".

Checking the vehicle's clutch, brakes and electrics is also vital before going on to make engine checks including looking at the oil level and potential fluid leaks.

Finally, Mr Gregory states that car finance customers need to get the car out on the road, as this can be the best way to pick out "abnormal noises" and potential engine problems, adding that six miles should be enough to allow the car to reach the right temperature.

Last week, mycarcheck.com and Nationwide Auto Centres unveiled a partnership to provide a new 15-point checking service.
