News for car finance customers: UK's greenest cars revealed

Drivers using a Car Loan to fund the purchase of a new car may be interested to know which models are the most environmentally friendly.

The Environmental Transport Association (ETA) surveyed more than 1,300 models currently on sale in the UK and examined their power, emissions, fuel efficiency and how much noise they produce.

It found that the Toyota Yaris is the greenest car overall, with the Dodge SRT-10 the least environmentally-friendly.

Toyota's RAV4 was the best of the off road vehicles and other category winners include the Honda Civic hybrid, Renault Modus, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 207.

BMW cars won in the large family and executive categories and the Vauxhall Tigra and Jaguar XJ 2.7L diesel are the greenest in the sports and luxury sections respectively.

Andrew Davis, ETA director, says: "With the increasing costs of motoring and the threat to the environment there has never been a more important time to choose greener cars."

He believes a combination of consumer pressure and government leadership will result in an increasing choice of environmentally-friendly vehicles.

Mr Davis says his main concern is not the Dodges and Lamborghinis as there are not many of them on the roads, but people buying cars that are too big for their needs.

The ETA was established in 1990 to raise awareness of the impact of excessive car use and help make positive changes in travel habits.
