Drivers buying a vehicle through Car Finance may be keen to learn how they can save money at the petrol pumps with the tips from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

The body says drivers cannot fail to be interested in ways to get the most miles out of every tank of petrol they put in to their new car.

"Regardless of your choice of vehicle, there are techniques you can use to save fuel and, at the same time, minimise your impact on the environment," IAM comments.

According to the motoring group, planning to take the most direct route and travelling during off-peak hours can save fuel and time.

It also advises regular servicing of new and used cars to ensure fuel economy is at its best.

Ensuring tyres are at the correct pressure, reducing drag by removing items like roof racks when they are not in use and not putting in a full tank of petrol can all help with fuel efficiency, IAM adds.

The IAM was set up in 1956 and is the UK's leading road safety organisation dedicated to raising driving standards and reducing the number of collisions.

It is involved in developing and promoting new road safety ideas and influencing government policy and also offers advanced driving tests.
