Poor roads impact driver car finance

British drivers are forced to make repairs to their cars every year worth millions of pounds due to potholes and uneven roads, a new survey has found.

Kwik-Fit found that on average the repair work needed after hitting a pothole costs £95, reports Motor Trader, adding significantly to Car Finance costs.

This is considerably more than the average cost of repairing a pothole at £56, and may account for UK drivers losing as much as £100 million a year in garage bills.

As well as being a nuisance and an unwelcome cost for many drivers, untended potholes also carry the risk of causing more serious accidents and forcing a motorist into making an insurance claim.

"Hitting potholes can cause numerous problems, from blow outs, slow punctures and bent wheel rims - through to damaged shock absorbers," David White from Kwik-Fit told Motor Trader.

"Hitting a large pothole is the equivalent of your tyre striking a small kerb at speed, so the damage can be considerable," he added.

Drivers concerned about the risks they face in between a major accident and their insurance policy kicking in can further protect themselves with guaranteed asset protection, which makes sure you're completely covered after a serious accident.
