Cars with no carbon emissions will be in use by the end of the year, according to one expert.

Debbie Hull, a spokeswoman for Mercedes Benz, said that energy efficient motoring was on the rise and that electric Smart cars would be in frequent use very soon.

The news could be of great interest to new Car Finance customers looking for a greener option and Ms Hull also said that the new cars emitting no carbon emissions were being well received at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

"We have just launched the new Smart which is CO2 emissions [free] which will make it exempt from the congestion charge when that changes next year," she said.

She added that carbon reduction was a corporate social responsibility and that the motor industry should continue to focus on energy efficiency.

Last week at the Frankfurt Motor Show Mercedes-Benz unveiled 19 new models designed to be more fuel efficient.
