More Protons for UK car loans customers

Malaysian car manufacturer Proton has announced it is to increase the number of exports to the UK significantly, which could be of interest to new Car Finance customers.

According to Reuters, Proton will gradually increase its total annual export numbers over the next few years from 44,000 to 100,000.

It is expected that between 4,000 and 5,000 Protons could make it to forecourts in the United Kingdom as Proton try to stake their claim on the budget new car market.

The state-owned carmaker appointed Youngman Automobile Group earlier this year as their distributor in China where it now hopes to sell around 30,000 cars over a 20 months period starting in November.

Although primarily known for its status as a budget car manufacturer, Proton has a number of interests and partnerships with other companies, including the firm's 1996 acquisition of a 63.75 per cent stake in Lotus Group International.

The company also has a partnership with the Volkswagen Group (VW) that allows them access to VW technology in exchange for allowing the German carmaker use of Tanjung Malim plant in Malaysia.
