Male motorists, including those opting for approved Car Finance, are more likely to have a major accident on the roads than women, according to a new study.
The survey, conducted by car insurance company elephant.co.uk found that although women were 55 per cent more likely to have an accident in a car park male drivers were 42 per cent more likely be involved in a head-on crash.
It was also revealed that, based on information from around 270,000 insurance claims, women were 78 per cent more likely to misplace car keys and 15 per cent more likely to collide with a parked car.
According to Brian Martin, the insurance company's managing director, the study was conducted to see if there was a difference in how both sexes behave on the roads and that the results had proved that there was.
"Women tend to be in more accidents at slower speeds, where cars are close together, while men have more high-speed accidents where it is easy to lose control," he said.
Last week a survey by Deloitte found that car insurance rates had significantly increased over the last year and that this could continue for the coming months, according to Reuters.
