Honda is to make its big push on the hybrid market over the next two years, which could be good news for Car Finance customers looking for a greener option.
According to Reuters, the Japanese car manufacturer has stated its intent with the announcement of a new petrol-electric hybrid, which it will put into mass production in 2009.
The company's chief executive Takeo Fukui told an industry conference earlier this week that he was keen to oversee the way in which their current hybrid models were manufactured.
"Right now, the Civic hybrid is pretty much hand-made," he said.
He added that due to the high levels of cost involved in making new petrol-electric cars, the company had little desire to increase production "under these circumstances".
The news agency reports that currently Honda is far behind its closest competitor Toyota in the hybrid market, having discontinued its more eco-friendly Accord this year.
This week Japanese manufacturer Mazda said it is to develop new fuel technology that will allow vehicles to run on hydrogen.
