Ford's replacement for the Fiesta is expected to be an improvement on its popular predecessor, according to Auto Express.

According to the magazine the Ford Verve, which will be available to new Car Finance customers in November 2008, continues Ford's current trend for reinventing its older models.

It is thought that the new car will come equipped with the manufacturer's Durashift automatic gearbox and will be available in 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol models as well as 1.4 and 1.6-litre diesel versions.

The magazine claims little has changed from the concept version of the car and that the Verve will come with an entry level price tag of £8,500.

Earlier this year, Auto Express reported that Ford was due to axe the Fiesta name as part of an attempt to reinvent the manufacturer's small car option.

One source said: "There is a strong tide in favour of some¬thing new as the car is radically differ¬ent from the current machine."
