Car Finance customers have been offered some assistance with their choice of vehicle following the results of the 2008 European Car of The Year.

Taking the top spot as the best new car was Fiat's new 500 supermini, which with a price tag of £7,900 was able to secure the top score of 385 points to take away the title.

According to Auto Express the Fiat 500 was closely followed by the Mazda 2, another supermini, which managed to clock up a score of 325 points.

Third place was awarded to the new Ford Mondeo which took 202 points and this was followed by the Kia Cee'd in fourth place and the Nissan Qashqai in fifth.

Other winners included the Mercedes C-Class with 128 points and the new Peugeot 308 which took 97 points from the judges.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that new car finance customers looking for a greener small car had been given more choice with the introduction of the Fiat 500.
