BMW's 3-series is one of the most popular used cars for drivers shopping online, according to a new study.

The survey, put together by classified ads magazine Auto Trader, found that the German manufacturer's compact executive saloon was one of the most searched for by motorists - including those with used Car Finance.

It was noted that during 2007, the magazine saw over 29 million searches for the 3-series on its website - which Auto Express notes is almost the same amount as the number of searches for the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra combined.

Last year's survey revealed that the most hunted car on the site was the Volkswagen Golf, however, the car dropped to second place in this year's results.

Also proving popular with drivers and Car Loans customer was the Vauxhall Corsa, which took fifth position as well as Ford's Fiesta and the Renault Clio, which took the sixth and seventh places in the table.

Today businesscar.co.uk noted that January values for used cars had witnessed a rise of around 7.9 per cent.
