Car Finance customers shopping for a used vehicle have been advised to look out for hidden damage when searching the forecourts.
According to an article for the Contra Costa Times, some people often find that what may have initially seemed a "sweet deal" soon turns "sour" when flood or water damage is discovered.
The newspaper states that water damage is often well hidden and cites advice from the Better Business Bureau, which suggests drivers, including those with Car Loans, should make a number of checks.
Checking paperwork, vehicle history and electronics are noted as the first thing to do when considering a used car - it is also suggested that looking for visible water damage is an easy way to spot future problems.
"Examine the trunk, glove compartment and under the seats and dash for signs of mud, rust or water damage. Also, check for a well-defined line … and for musty odours resulting from mildew," it states.
According to the Times, last year's floods in the UK were among the worst seen for 60 years.
