Suzuki Alto

Steer clear. Small city car offering excellent fuel economy and durable build quality, but nothing else.

Suzuki Grand Vitara

Recommended. A strong new contender in the hard-fought "soft roader" segment - good both on and off road.

Suzuki Grand Vitara (98-05)

Average. It has been around for years, but the Grand Vitara hasn't kept up with rivals offering more car-like qualities. Good in the dirt and well priced.

Suzuki Ignis

Not recommended. Don't let the butch off-roader styling fool you, the Ignis is just a below-average supermini with vague handling and a crashy ride.

Suzuki Jimny

Not recommended. The Jimny was supposed to be a fashionable, four-wheel drive runabout but the tiny dimensions make it uncomfortable both on and off-road.

Suzuki Liana

Not Recommended. Life In A New Age - that's what the name stands for, apparently. But if this is the future, you won't be needing your sunglasses.

Suzuki Swift

Recommended. One of the best of the current crop of superminis - great to look at, good to drive and very competitively priced.

Suzuki Swift (92 - 05)

Steer Clear. Terminally out-of-date supermini that only makes sense if it's very cheap indeed. Dynamics, equipment and build quality are all far removed from modern standards.

Suzuki SX4

Average. A tough-looking supermini with optional four-wheel drive. We're struggling to see the point.

Suzuki Wagon R+

Not recommended. A bestseller in Japan, the oddball Wagon R+ has lots of space for little money but not much else to recommend it.
