Daihatsu YRV

Ratings

3 stars

Summary

Average. Japanese supermini that benefits from strong engines and a practical interior. Very cheap to run and there's a good warranty. Looks are not to everyone's taste.

Review

YRV stands for Young Recreational Vehicle and although it's not that trendy to look at, the Daihatsu runabout costs little to buy and not much to run, returning up to 47mpg. The 1.3 petrol engine is shared with the award-winning Toyota Yaris and it's hugely popular in Japan. Equipment levels are high and you can expect twin front airbags and a radio-cassette, even on the entry-level Radical model. The F-Speed's clutchless gearchange is too fiddly to be enjoyable but there's a four-wheel drive 4trak model for muddy country lanes.
