Seat Cordoba

Ratings

3 stars

Summary

Average. Saloon version of the Ibiza supermini offering a similar ownership proposition thanks to keen engines, lots of equipment and competitive pricing. Plus the advantages of a huge boot. Problem is, of course, that Britain doesn't like supermini-based saloons.

Review

If you fancy an Ibiza but need more luggage space then the Cordoba makes sense, providing you don't mind the slightly strange-looking tail heavy proportions. Chassis settings are intended to feel 'sporty' - although in truth that's means little more than a firm ride and heavy steering. Basic 1.4 litre petrol version offers reasonable performance, but the two 1.9 litre turbo-diesel options (100 bhp and 130 bhp) are more responsive, quicker and give better economy. As with the Ibiza, standard equipment is excellent, including aircon, ABS and a CD player. But the expensive TDI 130 SE range-topper looks relatively poor value at nearly ?14,000.
