Toyota Celica

Ratings

4 stars

Summary

Recommended. A handsome mid-sized coupé offering predictably superb Toyota build quality and some sparkling driving dynamics. Engines lack low-down urge and there's only nominal space in the back.

Review

Looking good is half the battle in the coupé segment, something the edgy, wedgy Celica has effortlessly sewn up. Refined chassis combines secure, sporty roadholding with a supple, well-controlled ride. And with one or two occupants, the Celica feels spacious and airy by coupé standards. Rear seat space is very tight and the shallow boot lacks much capacity. Basic 140 bhp engine can't muster much grunt, but makes more sense than the manic, unruly T-Sport version. Besides, you appreciate the chance to use the sweet 6-speed gearbox as often as possible. Good equipment and strong residuals just wrap it up.
